Common Dryer Problems We Fix

Most dryer failures come down to a handful of components. Here’s what we see most often:

Not heating: the most common call. Usually a failed heating element, thermal fuse, or thermostat.

Not spinning: typically a broken drum belt, worn drum rollers, or a motor issue.

Takes too long to dry: often a clogged vent, a weak heating element, or a faulty moisture sensor.

Won’t start: door switch, thermal fuse, start switch, or control board.

Making noise: squealing or thumping usually points to drum support rollers, the drum glide, or a worn belt.

Door won’t latch: latch assembly or door striker needs replacing.

Shuts off mid-cycle: thermal overload or a ventilation restriction causing the unit to overheat.

Gas and Electric Dryer Repair

Gas and electric dryers share the same mechanical components: drum, belt, rollers, motor. Where they differ is in how they generate heat. Electric dryers rely on a heating element; gas dryers use a gas valve, igniter, and flame sensor. We repair both.

Is It Worth Repairing Your Dryer?

A new mid-range dryer runs $600 to $900 before installation. Most repairs land well below that. If your dryer is under ten years old and the repair is a single component, the math almost always favors fixing it. We’ll tell you if it doesn’t.
